When I first started my blog, almost seven years ago, I felt a little funny about showing things I bought at estate sales. I felt like I was saying "Look at me, look at me, look at what I got"!, which was anathema to my reserved Scandinavian heritage. Just ask Garrison Keillor.
I mentioned my reluctance on my blog and readers responded "Oh no, we want to see what you find, keep on showing us your loot". That was a good answer, because if I didn't show you what I bought or what I made, my blog would have ended about six and half years ago.
Usually when I do an estate sale Friday post, it's because I've found a whole bunch of cool stuff that I'm really excited about playing with and taking pictures of. That doesn't happen every Friday. Some Fridays would be better spent at home.
Like this Friday. The best thing I got was the painting at the top of the page. It's pansies in a nice old frame. It wasn't until I got it home, looked closely and realized I don't even know which side is the top and which is the bottom. I think I got it figured out, but it isn't the best pansy painting ever.
Same sale, I got these earrings. They're red, they're black, they're clip on, they look carved...they must be Bakelite, right?
Wrong...I'm pretty sure they're just big ugly 1980's earring that were meant to be worn with a jacket with big shoulder pads.
The other sale I went to was a down-sizing sale of former NFL football player Len Dawson (and his wife). I didn't go because I'm a big football fan, or to see their house (the sale was held at a storefront), it just happened to be on my route.
The sale had a lot of very nice items, just not quite junky enough for my taste. I did find this cute little flower pot with paper roses, some pretty vanity items...
...and tissue paper. I wanted to make sure and get a picture of the tissue paper posted so you could see just how thin this Friday was compared to some.
If I start doing regular posts with pictures of the tissue paper, it might be time to quit blogging!
When I was done taking my pictures, I gathered all of my "finds" together and realized that when I added them to a few things I already had, it made kind of a nice little vignette. But probably not one worth spending all Friday morning on.
