Nothing Better on a Friday Morning....
...than calling into the office saying you'll be late because there are a couple of estate sales you HAVE to go to.
And why do you HAVE to go to estate sales---because you're selling at an antique show next weekend and you need merchandise.
Ok, that's kind of a fib- I'll go to an estate sale just because it's there.
The antique show is Sat Jan 17 from 9-4 in Lee's Summit, MO at 50 Highway and Chipman Road. If you're in the Kansas City area, it's a GOOD one- even if you're not in the Kansas City area- it's a good one, with the real deal- country antiques & primitives- so come on out.
The pictures here are some things I bought this morning, some of them are for the show this weekend, some are being saved for Miss Frenchie's show in April, and some were just because I couldn't resist. Like the Animal Antics penmanship book that shows you how to draw "Creepy the Mouse" in just six steps.
This slightly shabby but sweet quilt is for the show next weekend.
Lately, I've been buying scissors- not orange handled Fiskars, but older, prettier scissors- mostly made in Germany. And I've always liked pocket watches. The little gold piece next to the scissors is a tiny pocket knife- I think it belongs on the end of a watch chain.
I'm not exactly sure what you're supposed to with these honeycomb things. They open up like this.
But I'm sure they have a lot of possibilities.
This pretty old plastic box is decorated with shells.
Isn't it pretty when the light shines through it?
The gold bottle is for perfume and it has a long glass applicator and this pretty (but cracked) floral stopper.
This is a page from a journal full of notes from a 1921 literature class. The handwriting is a little creaky, but I still like it.
Of course, a few buttons...
And some pretty old flowers.
But estate sales aren't just about old stuff- you can find the basic necessities of life, too..
Duct Tape, Post-Its, and if I could just get some Diet Coke and Microwave Popcorn- I'd be set for the weekend....
As usual, what wonderful things you find. And I might actually be able to make the antique show that weekend. I'm still kicking myself for missing the Frenchie event! I am determined to work out the balancing act of trying to work 40 plus hours a week, tend to family matters and still have a creative life. Duct tape, huh? Have you ever wondered what MacGyver would buy at an estate sale?

What wonderful finds today!! Good luck this week end sell lots. I'm sure LW is silently thanking the yard sale gnomes that you are way to far away for me to go!! :(

I was babysitting and acting out the whole movie of the Wizard of Oz while you were shopping. I discovered that I make a pretty good flying monkey if I lay my stomach across a swing at the park.
See, you need to invite me to some good estate sales, because I go slightly bonkers without a junk fix.

Oh I can't wait for the sale next weekend! I'll certainly be there - easy to get there since I live in Lee's Summit!

What wonderful estate sale finds. Due to straightend circumstances (sounds so Victorian, don't it?) I haven't been to a sale just to buy for quite sometime. I do work a few but ya can't grab all the good stuff before the doors open - specially when folks have been waiting in line since 5:30 am! In the meantime, thanks for the peeks, it's almost as good as being there!

Please tell me you are NOT one of those people I see standing at the kitchen cupboards of estate sales buying the half used open box of graham crackers?! "Look, Melvin! A partially used cake of soap. Let's grab it!" - shudder....
I have been known to pick up a few unopened household items myself. But I know you've seen those people at the sales!!
I do love looking at the goodies you scored. I love the Alphabet Antics book... Wish I was in K.C. I'd go see this sale. Sounds like a good one.

Hi Beth! You always find great things everytime you go out!! Makes me want to move to Kansas! I especially love the buttons, especially the blingy ones ~ I'm all about the bling these days, well, actually I ALWAYS have been about the bling!
The honeycomb things look like what our family used to hang as banners at our grocery store?!!

I think the honeycomb, expanding things were also used as arms and legs on Halloween and other holiday decorations.

Oh man!! My son is going to Kansas on Friday. I wanted to come with him but no dice! I'd be a third wheel anyway. How far is Wichita from you anyway? Maybe he'd sneak over there and buy something for me.

I think the honeycomb things are long enough they might be streamers, like what would be used for decor in the high school gym for a dance.
